Back in May I participated in a discussion on if and how International Civil Society Organizations (ICSOs) are adapting to changes around them. Here’s my summary of the conversations: Can International Civil Society Organizations be nimble?
A final report from the meeting is ready (download Riding the Wave: A proposal for Boards and CEOs on how to prepare their organizations for disruptive change) and here’s a video summary:
I’m curious what other folks think about this topic and the analysis and recommendations in the report.

Linda – Thanks for sharing this. I also saw some limited sharing under the hashtag #civilsocietyweek on Twitter last week. I think your group that worked on the report must have had some great discussions, and the report (and video) are clear and succinct as far as they go but they seem to stop at the point of acknowledging there is significant change and disruption that needs to be addressed. What organizations are doing innovative work in this area and what are they learning? It feels like we are beyond the stage of saying ‘take disruption seriously’ and need to be modeling what the next stages could look like. (Interesting that this blog has had no comments yet – as we’ve discussed in the past, I guess governance still seems boring, or at least ‘less sexy’ than ICT and other areas you write about. Thanks for continuing to raise them, though!). Cheers.
Thanks for commenting Bonnie. I agree that we need to move to the next phase! We did discuss some ways to move ahead, which I think I covered a bit in the post on “Can ICSOs be nimble,” but it would be great to really work on the “so what now?” questions some more. I hope the report will stimulate some of those conversations among ICSO leadership.
